| brab79 ::: Favorites 2007-12-25 05:32:09 When you count up the major scale the 3rd scale step is the note that is two wholes steps (or 4 frets) away from the 1 (or the root)When you lower that note by 1 fret it is now a flated 3rd and is now 3 frets from the 1. This alteration to the major scale is what makes it minor. When you play the major scale count each note 1-7 starting with the root (the 1).
