Drakulya21 ::: Favorites Germany, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Normandy, France and Italy were all colonial Empires, I don't think Britain was alone in that. Again, Britain wasn't the only participator in European wars nor was it the only European nation that milked the rest of the world for economical reasons. You're a complete idiot, aren't you? I was born and raised in Germany and have always believed that the British bitterness was because Germany and France destroyed their Empire and now overpowers them. 07-07-25 18:45:14 _____________________________________________________
sikcnt ::: Favorites No need to resort to insults. My point was, that unlike Germany/Denmark/Portugal etc, Britain, being geographically separated from mainland Europe, wasn't forced to work towards closer relationships with other European countries as it could easily distance itself from them, -especially- considering that any economic needs could be met by countries within its empire. -cont- 07-07-25 23:36:50 _____________________________________________________
sikcnt ::: Favorites -cont- So disdain towards other nations continued to be more prominent than it is in other European countries, even those that are more separated geographically such as Iceland, which shows that it has nothing to do with geography. This is the point i was making and i thought it was pretty obvious, so thanks for the insult, but i think you proved who the real idiot is. 07-07-25 23:39:20 _____________________________________________________
Drakulya21 ::: Favorites Spain, at one point, ruled almost the entire Americas. Germany had land in South Asia and Africa. My friend, every nation I mentioned above had land outside of Europe. 07-07-26 01:01:21 _____________________________________________________
sikcnt ::: Favorites I know but what i mean is, while they also had empires as the British did, they were geographically joined to other European countries and therefore may have been more inclined or required to work towards better relationships with their neighbours, while the British weren't in that kind of situation and could quite comfortably ignore their neighbours as they didn't need them for economic reasons either 07-07-26 02:20:39 _____________________________________________________
sikcnt ::: Favorites If they didn't have an empire to rely on for economic requirements, they may have been forced to embrace Europe more and today would be a lot less anti-European. So basically i think the reason they are reluctant to be considered European is because they -could- get away with distancing themselves from Europe for so long, and that mentality is only just starting to change as their economic situation changes 07-07-26 02:23:33 _____________________________________________________
Drakulya21 ::: Favorites How do you think boarders are formed? Almost all nations are separated by mountains, rivers, deep forests or other nature-based barriers. The small body of water that separates Britain from Europe is no different than the mountains that seperate Germany from Italy. Thinking by that mentality is childish. Britain was every bit depedant on Europe as nations on the mainland are on other European nations. 07-07-26 03:42:47 _____________________________________________________ |
