That man I saw in Gardiner Street Stumble on the kerb was one, He stared at me half-eyed, I might have been his son. And I remember the musician Faltering over his fiddle In Bayswater, London. He too set me the riddle. Every old man I see In October-coloured weather Seems to say to me "I was once your father." -Patrick Kavanagh

vronskioblonski ::: Favorites  2007-12-20 20:32:51 The poem reminds of the Kurt Cobain line: "I tried hard to have a father, but instead I had a dad." The reference to "Bringing In The Sheaves." Instead of a "We Shall Come Rejoicing" type of guy, you get one who acknowledges the existence of death and failure. The images work well, and the reader's voice, too, gets in my head.
