BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-12 04:32:23 Exactly. It is simply saying that his tail swings like a cedar, most likely referencing how the branches swing in the wind (assuming that your translation is correct). It does nothing to describe how the tail is shaped. So, tell me, how exactly is behemoth a dinosaur? Can you give me anything in there that indiates behemoth is a dinosaur? __________________________________________________
BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-12 04:30:39 I was refering to :"21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens." You know. The one just before the passage you cited. __________________________________________________
MikeyCanuck123 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 20:46:30 Of course 'moves' or 'bends' describes what the tail is doing. No argument there. Job 40:17 "He bends his tail like a cedar... ". __________________________________________________
MikeyCanuck123 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 20:39:59 "Covered by and firns? Not even close." Are you referring to this passage: Job 40:22 "The lotus plants cover him with shade; The willows of the brook surround him." I don't see any discrepancy there. __________________________________________________
MikeyCanuck123 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 20:33:43 Balmung, I'm glad you're interested in the Bible, but you're not even close with 'euphemisms'. When you reference Bible passages, you then need to go to the original Greek or Hebrew. Following is an excellent website with a lexicon (under 'Search the BLB). blueletterbibleDOTorg __________________________________________________
BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 17:26:33 Plus, assuming "moveth" is the proper translation, that is merely describing how the tail MOVES. It does nothing to describe how the tail is SHAPED. The shape is really the only thing creationists have to make behemoth remotely resemble a dinosaur. __________________________________________________
BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 17:25:16 They were euphemisms of the time. Tail was a euphamism for a penis, and moveth for "to extend". Also, most likely describing a sauropod? It says that behemoth is rests under trees and can be covered by reeds and firns. A sauropod resting under trees? Yes. Covered by and firns? Not even close. It does, however, resemble the way hippos live. __________________________________________________
MikeyCanuck123 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 17:13:01 Hi Balmung. Not sure where you're getting "penis" for "tail". The Hebrew word for tail here is 'zanab'. This word is from a similar Hebrew word with different accents, (Strong's H2179)'zanab', meaning 'to wag'. "Moves" is the Hebrew word 'chaphets'. Behemoth is probably referencing a Sauropod dinosaur, not a hippo. __________________________________________________
BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 11:40:39 Thanks for the compliments. :) There are others, though. Don't think it's a pipe dream. We'll never whipe out ignorance, but we can at least make a dent. Oh, and thanks for the sub. __________________________________________________
secret102 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 10:41:21 Balmung, Just wanted to compliment your very accurate and thorough response. We could use more people like you using logic, evidence and a reasonable tone in internet debates. Though, I'm sure thats a pipe dream... Anyway, as usual i'm bemused by people using vague bible passages as empirical evidence. I can't beleive how many reasonable people can't accept irrefutable evidence. Then again, if I were brought up in a strict christian home, I doubt I would see the flaws either. __________________________________________________
matt1746 ::: Favorites 2008-01-11 01:04:04 Bible science. LAWL You're taking these quotes out of context. Check out this one... Isaiah 11:12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. FOUR CORNERS!!! Stop trying to save your religion, it's hopeless. __________________________________________________
Hez1337 ::: Favorites 2008-01-10 22:34:16 Not many scientists support creation at all, thankfully. __________________________________________________
BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-10 06:10:34 Most Christians I know reject those points you made because, well, they're stupid. I don't hold these against the Bible. I see this as points showing that the Bible is not a science book (like when they say pi equals three, humans came straight from dirt, and of course God). __________________________________________________
BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-10 06:10:26 YOu reject junk science? No offense. You seem like a good guy, but you know next to nothing about science, and even less about evolution. As for your list of scientists who accept creation, so what? Argument from authority. Numerous studies have shown that creation scientists are GREATLY outweighed by scientists accepting evolution (see Project Steve). __________________________________________________
BalmungSama0 ::: Favorites 2008-01-10 06:05:57 The hydrologic cycle is the MUCH more complicated that that verse suggests. And it doesn't take much to know vapor is made out of water. And once again we have scientists in other cultures at the times, like the Greeks, who figured this out. __________________________________________________ |
