Sure it's not Bobby Horton? I think Johnny Horton died decades ago.

Thanks! Also, another point I'd like to make is: why make it about Northerners freeing blacks, and the South opressing them? What about the Indians that they (Union Army) were not enslaving, but slaughtering them and the fact that that 5 major Native American nations were fighting for the Confederacy and AGAINST Yankee ethnic cleansing of Indians? Why is that NOT mentioned? Is the Negro superior than an Indian now? No, it's just manipulation of history, Yankee style!

That's true, but did you know that the California population was sympathetic to the Confederacy back then? More surprisingly, even Washington DC's as well!

I think one of the best ways to get the truth out is at reenactments when the classes come on Friday. They usually have a question like "what are you fighting for?" and if you're prepared, you can give them the truth they rarely hear in a believable, non-threatening manner. We're in California, so I think the Yankee version prevails. At least that was what I always heard and believed until REAL recently when I started reenacting.

I assume from the tag that is Johnny Horton? It is a wonderful rendition, catching the bittersweet image of someone coming home, but there is not much left. The celebrations are definitely muted. Keep up the good work Deo Vindice
